Dwarf mode: Wound recovering
« on: March 01, 2007, 12:51:00 pm »

I noticed in my last game that when a dwarf get wounded in sub-body parts like shoulders, backs, hips and such, up to mangled level, when they rest they recover from these wounds instantly.

This is wierd, since I have a dwarf with a mangled arm resting in bed for 4 years already...

I think I've also noticed some weird healing.  A dwarf would have multiple injuries, yellow or worse, and would be put to bed, and most injuries would disappear, though he'd still be bedridden for one or two remaining ones.

I think this may be because the yellow injuries just represent breaks or tears in whatever they represent.  It could be very minor, fast heal, or something that takes months.  You have no way of knowing at the time.  I'm not sure how Toady wanted to deal with wounds however, so I could be wrong, that's just how I see it.

A big part of healing is also the dwarf's toughness rating.  A dwarf without any attributes has very little chance of recovery, but a dwarf with "Very Tough" or better can shrug off large numbers of yellow or red wounds.

Also, "internal" injuries, like joints or organs, seem to heal much sooner than primary body parts, like an arm.

Toady has said occasionally that healing is pretty incomplete right now.

I once saw a hunter go down to yellow on the lower body and heal back to full while dragging the body to the butcher. He was very tough.

Ithink I discover why my dwarves stayed 5 years wounded. He was in a bed assigned to be the barracks. He was resting, but wasn't recovering. I took him to another bed and he recovered in a couple of seasons.

Innnnteresting...  Maybe the recovery code should be checked on barracks beds...
