I think sony mentioned that their passwords were at least hashed, but, since there was no mention of anything else, it can only be assumed that they either didn't salt, or don't trust their system to be secure and intentionally avoided mentioning it. Or worse, found/created and unconventional hashing system that cannot be proven to be even close to as good as a mere md5.
