TIE Fighter would be the best movie.

Other than that, maybe Fire Warrior.

Dark Reign.
Seconded. While we're on the topic of strategy games, how about Ground Control as well?

I haven't played Ground Control. What's the story about?

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Ground Control's story wasn't amazing, but the game itself was.

I would probably have three choices myself, although I'd have no idea who'd star in any of 'em:

Diablo 2
Starcraft 1
EVE Online.

For EVE, the storyline would have to be around some of the major events that players made, as there is no real storyline in the game.  That, or perhaps have the storyline be set during the Amarr / Gallente war.  I may hate the Gallente's ship aesthetics, but damn do I love their drone tactics.

I'd honestly like to see a good game-to-movie. I don't think there's ever been one that was really liked by the original fans, and even if I hated the original game, and maybe even the movie, I still would be happy that it was created, because it would prove to the big movie execs that game movies could work and we'd probably see a lot more. Most of them would suck, but surely a few would work out.

In lieu of that, though, You Have To Burn The Rope, The Movie.
I dunno, Mortal Kombat the movie was at least ok. Similarly with the little youtube miniseries made alongside MK9.

Though I guess being able only to make a decent film based on a fighting game with little to no storyline doesn't say much good about game-movie transitions. And all the MK movie inspired in big movie execs was a bad sequel and a bad tv series.

That said, I don't actually want anything made into a movie all that much anymore. Not after Hitman and Resident Evil. Though I guess I'd sort of like to see a Legacy of Kain movie series (in an alternate universe where game-movies are accurate to the source material).

Boatmurdered the movie!
To prevent censorship it would need to be in ASCII though...

Only if Simon Templeman voices Kain.

The gameplay of Ground Control itself would lend itself well to a movie format though, akin to many a war movie. Plus, for all the shortcomings the story had, Major Parker (the protagonist) felt more fleshed-out then most characters you find in a video game.
