Blood dries after a while
« on: November 06, 2011, 12:50:33 am »

Because I should not be finding pools of thirty-year-old hydra blood anywhere.

I think blood should stop getting picked up by passing traffic after a while. Perhaps the check could be made yearly, with any contaminants that have been checked once already being marked as dry. This would mean that blood takes between one year and two years to dry, with the exact length of time being arbitrary.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I got a possible solution

have "Tracked in" blood as seperate from ordinary blood and each time it is tracked it reduces the number

So when the blood is shed into a pool it is Blood 7. It gets tracked and becomes Blood 6. That gets tracked and becomes Blood 5. That gets tracked and becomes blood 4. and so on (a wettness rating so to speak)

The Highest blood gets priority so if you track Blood 5 onto Blood 6 it is still blood 6.

Plus each blood level dries up on its own.

There you go the best solution I can think of and it works for every contaminant in the game including water.

Should go from what ever number it was on, straight to zero, it gets hit by a rain drop.

I picked this way because it's less for the game to do. The check only ever gets made once a year, and an individual pool is only ever looked at twice. After that it becomes inert and the game doesn't need to keep a note of whose feet or clothing it's on. It's still there, it's just dried to a stain or soaked into the wall or floor.
