Dwarves don't like sleeping in their rooms, it seems...
« on: May 05, 2008, 07:04:00 pm »

This is the latest version. 38c, I believe?

Anyways, I've noticed that occasional I'll have dwarves that don't have a room, nor do they ever get one. Currently my Hunter likes sleeping at the most random spots, such as in the middle of my hallway. It gives him uphappy thoughts, and it shows he doesn't own a room, despite having multiple free rooms open.

Last game I had a Fish Dissector who would always sleep in the barracks - and no where else. Again, plenty of free rooms, and considering he was part of the original 7, it was the most strange.

What gives?

No to both times it's happened, though on a (related?) note, it happened relatively early in my fort's life, and just never went away. As I said, the fish dissector with a passion for Barrack's beds started as soon as my barracks was uo and running, and he just never left.

My current fort is at 50 dwarves.

What happens when you assign a bed to the dwarf?

Hunters will sleep wherever they drop, it's just the way it works.  The fish dissector, however...   I guess some dwarves just really get attached to the barracks.

as none of my bedrooms ever get used i stopped bothering and let them sleep (in my now over 50 beds) barracks.

Have you missed designating some of the beds to be rooms? May happen to be the fish disector is just the odd dwarf out. Hunters as was said, just sleep anywhere.

I've been seeing a similar thing, with several dwarves who seem to prefer to sleep on the floor in the barracks, rather than in the rooms that each dwarf has been manually(dwarfually?) assigned. No economy, not hunters, not military set to sleep in the barracks, they just seem to prefer to sleep on the bloodstained floor.

Well, the fort containing the Fish Dissector has been abandoned, otherwise I'd try to assign a bed to him.

As for the Hunter...he constantly has thoughts such as "Slept on the sand recently" or "Slept in the mud recently" and all that crap, and I believe he also has "Slept without a proper room." These are all, I'd imagine, giving him bad thoughts...despite it being a choice of his to sleep wherever he stands. However, the idea itself, of a Ranger just roughing it wherever he has to, IS a neat idea.
