I recall reading that on the wiki somewhere, my bone carver made an artifact grate cover and i figured i could use it to safely delve into the deeper tunnels, knowing i can shut and lock my indestructible grate if i dig a bit too deep.

Yes, artifacts can't be destroyed by building destroyers. They may spend eternity attempting to destroy the grate, depending on how you use it.

Artifact constructions can be passed by building destroyers like non-artifact ones can. The building destroyers just deconstruct (so it is no longer a building, but the item is still there) them rather than making them wear down like they do with normal items.

However, (locked)hatches and grates cannot be deconstructed from the level below them, so you would be able to seal a staircase from above with or withour an artifact.

Yes and no.  "Yes" the item can never be destroyed, "No" it can still be ripped off the hinges.  Even still, building destroyers cannot reach upwards, so any locked hatch will keep HFS out.  Although, you'll still suffer for FPS.

I wish the hingesmiths would hurry up and make artifact hinges to create the ultimate force; an unopenable door.

Though if a living dragonfly is in an open door when it closes, it becomes a blood smear (no remains).
