caravan mules dying strangely (cold?)
« on: November 13, 2007, 12:36:00 am »

I did a search but couldn't find anything relating to this.

I'm on a very northern cold map (not sure how cold, but cold enough so that my river's frozen solid).  I had a nice tasty dwarven caravan arrive in early Fall, and it headed towards my Depot (has to go over a bunch of hills, etc).

Suddenly, the next thing I notice is that the dwarves are heading back towards the exit, and one of the mules seems to be dead inexplicably.  Then I carefully watched the other mule, which died right in the middle of walking for no apparent reason.

Is it the cold?  Is this a bug?  (If this is intended behavior - how can I encourage the caravan to get to my depot safely?)

Thanks for advice.  (Also, if anyone knows how to get water out of a solid-frozen river, I'd love to know.)

I've never noticed the actual mules driving the caravan freezing to death before, however dead animals in cages are quite common on cold maps.

Heck, dead animals in cages have been reported just from the caravan TRAVELING over distant biomes with the wrong temperature. And then the elves still try to sell it to you. And it's too heavy for them to take back.
