I got a metric crap ton of goods sitting on the ground from the wagon, how do I bring those inside?

They belong in different type stockpiles, mainly finished goods, food, & cloth.

I recommend making your dwarf tunnels at least two tiles wide; dwarves move slower in tight tunnels.

Well with one tile wide tunnels, I can defend easier right? And my butcher shop is producing miasma for no reason what happen?

EDIT: Nevermind, rotten yaks.

One-wide tunnels make it harder for both parties - it'll be harder for the gobbos to fight but it will be equally hard for your forces to fight (with the exception if you have well-armored dwarves that won't rely on dodging for defense). Go with a building-destroyer immune wall (drawbridge or hatch ramp) or a trap corridor.

Stockpiles ftw

from the main menu "p"

Place a refuse stockpile outside
Place a corpses stockpile outside
Place a food stockpile (or multiple specialized food stockpiles) inside
Place a furniture stockpile inside
Place a finished goods stockpile inside
Place a small wood stockpile somewhere close

Then look around and find stuff laying on the ground. If there is anything left (maybe clothes, armor, weapons or ammo) make a stockpile for it.

I also suggest making 10 bins (if you have the wood)

Those are ponds, so they will refill when it rains.  Before that happens, you'll want to wall it off.
If you let the water spread out to 1/7 depth, it will evaporate over time leaving mud.  You can get rid of the mud by building something and then demolishing it again.  Or you can build a farm on the mud.

Or if you want to take advantage, dig a cistern near that breach, and then put a floodgate in rather than a wall.
If you (b)uild->(t)rap->(l)ever, you can then hook up the lever to the floodgate and turn the tap on and off.
(Don't put the water shutoff lever in the flooding zone tho!)

If you're in a rush to get the water out, or if you want to get it out of that channeled area in the south, you'll need a pump.
Manufacture a tube, a giant corkscrew and a Block, and assemble them into a screw pump.
Build the pump just above the water, and it can pump the water below it up to its own level.
You'll need a dwarf with the pump operator job enabled.  Or you can build a windmill and link it to the pump with axles and gears.

It looks like you've got water spilling down the stairs in the east of the main room there.  You could manufacture some hatch covers to prevent any more leakage, and then you'll have to either wait for evaporation, or build a bunch of pumps in a row/stack to get it all out.

I have abandoned the fortress :( (no one was taking any orders and the water flooded everything). It was a good first run though and I thank you all for helping me out and teaching me the way of the Dorf! I shall name my next fort's inhabitants after you all!

Well, flooding is one of the dwarvenly ways to lose a fortress. ;)  I lost my first fort to flooding, just like yours, and my second to goblin macemen.  I still haven't lost one to magma, but I'm working on it (more lack of time than effort).

As for "useless" dwarves, kill them in interesting and possibly useful ways: draft them into the militia.  If you don't use a danger room (and sometimes even if you do) you'll lose a number of meat shields recruits before you've got a decent cadre to build up from.

Heck, that was only a pond. It had a finite amount of water. The water would have spread out and dried up if you gave it a little time. I once accidentally dug into a river, which is an infinite supply. I was lucky to be able to throw up a few doors and block off that area of that fort.

BTW, you can set [SHOW_FLOW_AMOUNTS:YES] in data/init/d_init.txt to have it show water & magma as numbers indicating the depth instead of ≈. It's very useful to see that you're dealing with water that's only 1 or 2 deep.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

If you start to get annoyed with all the .,`' ground, you can go into the init folder, open d_init.txt, and search for [VARIED_GROUND_TILES:YES]. Then change it to NO, save, and load up. The ground will all be .'s except for sand which will be the wavy equal sign, like water.
On bedrooms, Boatmurdered had bedrooms that size and it didn't have any problems. Any related to bedrooms, to be exact.

When dealing with water, doors.

doors everywhere.

Lots of doors. Saved my fort on more than one occasion.

P.S. Going through the init file really helps... just reading through all the options you find a whole bunch of settings you might find handy.
