Time to break the coffins out
« on: October 19, 2011, 06:57:43 pm »

So I accidentally caused a cave in which caused a single dwarf to die.  It was my first dwarf to die and I have about 50.  I then buried him and then had an engraver have a tantrum.  The engraver then goes and punches my legendary weaponsmith in the head killing him instantly.  He didn't have anything in his hands, he simply punched him smashing his skull and brain.  This eventually causes 5 people to go insane and a few dwarves to die.  Now about 10 more dwarves are killed by that said engraver who is still not beserk but merely tantruming.  They were all killed in mostly the same way.  He also has no injuries.  The only plus side is that I'm definitely drafting him into the military.

I know.  I just wanted to share it.  I'm also curious as how my Engraver is so strong.

Well have you ever thought of what they're doing the engraving with? You certainly don't embark with chisels. A populat theory is that their beard or hands are used to smooth/engrave the rock. Now you tell me you wouldn't get strong if you spent years successfully smoothing stone with nothing but the tools your body has to work with.

Dwarven skulls are made of paper that they've named to be bone.  I often mod in copper skulls, as I find this to be usually to hard for a civilian to break, but not so hard that invaders are useless.  If you give them adamantine skulls then their survival mechanism will be to fall unconscious and have goblins fail to break their skull.  Copper isn't so strong, but it's a good balance there.

Some old folklore has the dwarves being made directly from the earth, so them have metal bones sounds appropriate...

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

I believe you could give them obsidian bones if you wanted (rather easily, in fact).  That would make for a fun burial process.  Forget the formaldehyde, we use magma.

Didn't Ghazkul Mag Thraka have his skull replaced with an adamantium case?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
