If you have any capacity to wall off the fort, then lock the demons in and build another fort atop of it.  That's the dwarfy thing to do.  You lost a fort?  Build another one on top!  Then try and reclaim the lost town...

We don't go there anymore.
Build a wizards tower atop the old fortress, sealing it off. Turn the area around the old fortress into a catacombs, then build a very complicated trap that will allow you to reaccess the old fortress via lever. Let the world run for years and years.

When a new generation lives in the tower, cut off all ability to access it from the outside. Make it able to survive on its own, then when goblins/elves/men siege you, seal yourself in and pull the lever, releasing all of the demons upon the world.

Rename him Malus.
Make him into your next militia commander. Coat him in adamantine. Have him lead the charges.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.
