Can't train war dogs.
« on: October 18, 2011, 03:32:48 am »

Hi all,

So I've been trying to train some war dogs. I've got two dogs (not pets) in a pasture surrounding a kennel. I tell my animal trainer to train war dogs, but he says there are no such creatures. Is this a common error? Does anybody have a solution?

Thanks.

Yeah. Dogs in pastures or cages or assigned to chains, for some reason dont COUNT towards the available dogs.

You need to unassign them to get the dogs back in roaming mode, and the kennel will be able to train them.

Yeah. Dogs in pastures or cages or assigned to chains, for some reason dont COUNT towards the available dogs.

Unless the kennel is located inside the pasture, in which case the dogs will be available.  I usually make a pasture zone that includes the kennel and assign all dogs to it, and have never had trouble training the dogs that way.

Are the dogs adults?  Puppies can't be trained.  They also need to be tame, not already trained, and not anybody's pet.

Dogs and cats are both domestic only animals.  You won't find wild versions of them.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

I dunno, it doesn't seem like my dwarfs can detect animals. I can't milk them, shear them, train them, or anything..
