The jungles of lessening
« on: October 16, 2011, 06:03:11 pm »

Im having my Dorfs engrave just about everything so I can learn more about the worlds history.

In doing so, I have noticed a trend.

whenever there was a major event involving death, it almost always occurred in a place called "the Jungles of Lessening" which I presume was a savage evil biome. Is it natural for most all of the bad events to occur in only one biome like this? is it some kind of world gen oddity?

How big is your world?  If it's a pocket world with low variance and therefore few biomes, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of bad stuff happened in just one of them

Also, dwarves seem to get a penchant for certain engravings.  perhaps one of your engravers just thinks the Jungles of Lessening have the coolest history ever and engraves nothing else.

Maybe that's the place you've embarked on. Dwarves tend to prefer local history, and your location must've once been a battleground

1. Its a medium sized world.
2. We embarked in "the eastern swamps" which I think was on the other side of the continent

if you're getting the "eastern swamps" information form "there is nothing to catch in the eastern swamps", that's not referring to your biome but to murky pools on the right side of your map.  I've never seen a biome name with a location description like "eastern".

If you uploaded your save, someone could probably check it out in Legends mode to see if there's a sampling bias or if there is actually something weird about the jungles.

After learning how to use the legends mode browser and backing up my save. It appears that the Jungles of lessening is an absolutely massive biome, one of the biggest I've ever seen (though admittedly that is not very many). It essentially takes up about 1/4 of the entire worlds landmass.

and the engravers have lots to talk carve about, here's the a screen-shot of HALF the list of its major events.
Spoiler'd because the image itself is pretty big.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Most of those are unique kills, as most of the titans and minotaurs and such are only racking up one kill before dying themselves.
