Kittens weigh more.  Candy weighs just a hair more than common consumer styrofoam (opposed to industrial packing styrofoam).

I should note that this screencap was taken some years after the dwarf in question was assigned to be captain of the guard. Decades, actually. He got pretty good with the damn thing.

Looking at the warhammer now, it has thirteen kills - all dwarves. Eleven are due to this guy, Limul 'Breachedwhips' Gildnut the Great Salve of Amazement. For reference:

Oh, and it weighs <1 dwarf pounds, or whatever.

One Γ is equal to one kilogram.  One kilo is about 2.2 pounds.  According to the wiki and raws, at a Warhammer size of 400 and adamantine's solid density at 200, an adamantine warhammer should weigh in at .08 kilos or .176 pounds.  Or, 2.8 ounces.  A quick google reveals that 14 quarters ($3.50) weighs the same amount.

You could comfortably hang an adamantine warhammer off your pocket.

Clearly, we have underestimated the killing ability of a handful of quarters.

In dwarven hands, even a pair of bare hands are lethal killing turbines of furry-knuckled brawling.  This is less about the power of a weapon and more about the power of a dwarf.

So, if even a wiffle bat is deadly in the hands of a dwarf, a captain of the guard can only be harmless if he is a paraplegic? This seems to be what I'm getting out of this.

...
Is there some way I can like, gag him so he just sits there and stops issuing mandates. If there's some way to keep him alive but incapacitated it would be great (assuming I don't lose out on anything with him like that)
I once had a perfect baron. He was always happy, never issued mandates and never pissed me off. I even know why he acted like that. Do you want to know the secret?

Well, think of it this way. You'll lose a lot less dwarves to these vicious nerf beatings than you will to dehydration and starvation in jail. Mostly harmless.

Why does this mayor come across as a very Munstrum Ridcully type character?

Jails can be set up to have their own food and drink stockpiles. I normally create one stockpile for each and then nip out tiles so that there's one square per cell for food and three for drinks, but a three-floor jail with a whole floor each for food and drink is far less micromanagement.

But the more precise arrangement does look nicer.

He got pretty good with the damn thing.
That makes sense, considering what a skilled Biter can do. How high was the dwarf's Hammer skill?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
