im wondering where if i go with the 1x4gb 2x2gb ram config would the integrated chip steal the 2gb ram and keep it for itself minimizing thrashing and all other sorts?

You have integrated video on your motherboard that shares system memory? So far as I know, physical chip layout should make no difference. Whether you have one 4gig dimm or two 2gig dimms, your video system is unlikely to know or care. Your graphics chip will request memory allocation by address, not chip. It won't take up "a whole chip" just because it's using some part of that chip.

But when it comes time to upgrade it's generally more convenient to have fewer, larger modules, so you have available slots to add more.
