Is there any "Fortress design gallery"?
« on: October 10, 2011, 10:10:56 pm »

Does such thing exist? A repository where people show off their fortress designs?

I've seen the various bedroom designs and workshop designs on wiki, but I was wondering if there is a larger collection somewhere to browse through. I feel like an elaborate design scheme but I'm low on inspiration.

Many threads have been started.  Search for "show your fort" or "your X design" or something similar.

Thanks. I did similar searches before I started the thread, along the lines of "fortress designs". I was just wondering if there's a centralised place that I'm not aware of, since the search results are very scattered.

http://mkv25.net/dfma/index.php is what you might be looking for! It's basically heaps of fortresses all uploaded for browsing through, including some fairly nifty designs. Try using the 'favourites' section :).

Many thanks for that link Russell.s. That's exactly what I was looking for (wouldn't have known to search for "map archive").

There goes my productivity down the drain!

My productivity went down the drain the moment I found this game!

It is important to note that most of these are legendary because of the FUN (and ‼FUN‼)designs.

Sending a new person to the Hall of Legends to learn how to design forts is like teaching someone to drive by repeatedly showing them movies of people getting into fatal automobile accidents.

I regret to inform the community that the mass murder of puppies does not create a viable clock.
I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.

Some of them actually worked out fine and the spectacular failures are always clearly labelled. Even then, it's not necessarily the design that wrecked things, but the people in charge.

Also showing movies of people getting into fatal automobile accidents is a common part of a Driver's Safety Course, especially if they have to go to Driver's School because of repeated traffic violations. Some places even do it in High School either as part of a Driver's Ed Course or Health Class to prevent people from drinking and driving; the latter I know from personal experience.
