Damned Tech Fairs
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:35:41 pm »

So, recently, the school is grading my project for the state tech fair. We're supposed to make a cartoon, a robot, a game or program that does something useful. Using this piece of work, http://scratch.mit.edu/, I remade TF2 in 2d. I use a random number generator to pick the Ai's paths and actions. Like 4 and 5 mean different sentry nests for a bot engineer. There was a good 50-60 pages of code. I lost to someone who made a pre-sprited cat move with the arrow keys, and some carpets that turned 90 degrees when hitting a wall. The fuck is wrong with the judges?
But yeah, I'm remaking it, so it'll be up here soon. Expect good code and shitty sprites.

Eh, Scratch is shit in the first place. Trust me, I took a class in school for "Game Programming" all we did was make a damn cat move across the screen, and we had to pay 60$ too.

Your drunk posts continue to baffle me.
Welcome to Reality.

Judges seem to be concerned with appearances.  A masterfully coded god tool wouldn't get you very far in that atmosphere, but a dancing dog probably would.  Don't worry about it too much.  Stuff happens and it's not your fault, so don't worry about it overly much.  But do post it here, I love exactly the kind of stuff you're talking about~

If you want something simple and visually appealing, Processing is a pretty nice way to go. Scratch looks damned ugly.

Well, neither of you really did anything useful.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.
