Help injured dwarf being usefull
« on: October 06, 2011, 11:19:10 am »

So, i had a mechanic, that was injured in a fight, lost some teeth and got his both arms crippled by nerve damage (no grasp). After wondering about giving him some usefull work, i just had him train the wrestle. But problem is, he cant equip any armor, is there a way to armor him without messing with raws?

Or to way to maintain him in military service in his state to still be somewhat effective? And way to do that after one of his legs is bitten of by giant?

If one of his legs was bitten off by a giant I suggest that you find some (!!FUN!!) use for him, such as exploring the caverns or becoming a magma explorer. This is simply because as he can't use his arms that means he can't use crutches, so he will be forced to sort of push himself places with his one remaining leg as he rolls on the ground. Another possible use I suggest would be using him as cannon fodder for your military. Sure he might go down in a couple hits, but if he actually manages to reach the goblins a dwarven legendary biter is one of the most powerful types of wrestlers and can easily decapitate goblins.

On the equipment note, I don't know of any way to get dwarves without grasps to equip themselves.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

If that is the case, is possible to edit raws so that damaged nerves will heal?
If so, i could equip him with lead crutch, could be fun.

1)Go into the raw folder
2)Open the txt file tissue_template_default
3)Find the entry [TISSUE_TEMPLATE:NERVE_TEMPLATE]
4)Add [HEALING_RATE:XX] underneath the entry, with the XX being the healing rate. The lower the rate the faster it heals, with most muscles healing at ~100 and bone/shells healing at ~1000.

That should cause your dwarf to heal given enough time, therefore allowing him to equip a crutch.

I though that only works for nerve tissue in spine. I also already have that enabled, but nothing heals.
He got severed motor and sensory nerves in arms.
Those can be edited to heal themselves?

Hmmm... Seems like sensory/motor nerves might be controlled by a different token.
Try removing [HAS_NERVES] from the dwarven creature entry, loading up your game and saving, adding [HAS_NERVES] back in and then loading up the game again.
That would probably be my best guess, though if it does work it will instantly heal any and all severed nerves of dwarves anywhere.

Edit: Also make sure that you are doing all of your edits to the raw file in the given region's folder, and not to the raw file in the main DF folder.

sady [HAS_NERVES] only stop you from geting damaged nerves, your stuck with it bar maybe hex editing(this is beond most of us) or  one of the df hack tools.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.
