do calves graze at same rate as adults?
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:08:53 am »

I don't know enough about the raws to interpret this correctly. Does a baby yak, for example, need as much grass as a full-grown yak?

I guess, even if the kids were light eaters, there'd be no point in keeping them 'til adulthood. You can't milk or shear juveniles (I think), so unless you want to wait a long time for them to be butcherable, you might as well butcher them all right away and just do your animal husbandry with reasonably-sized critters.

I don't have a concrete answer for you, but from experience trying to cram several yaks into too small of a cavern space: the adults become hungry and starve much faster than the calves. The big bull yak I keep around also seemed to get hungry faster than the cows, but that could be coincidence.

As far as Wiki is concerned the speed of grazing (and the necessary amount of food) is based off the size of the creature. calves are smaller so they eat less and yak males are usually bigger than the females thus they need more food.

Also elephants die of starvation no matter how much food you have... :C
