Legendary Weapons: How do they work?
« on: September 29, 2011, 04:23:12 pm »

So. My militia commander, 'Trog' Raptorrags the Routed Master of Pregnancy, is kind of a badass. She ha 29 kills to her name, with a goddamn silver battle axe, of all things. My question is, how many kills will it take before the axe becomes legendary? Because once the inevitable FUN happens, I'd like to find the awesome axe and take it in adventurer mode.

Congratulations, you killed the only things considered dominant and have heralded the end of civilization in your world as you know it.

You mean a named weapon, or an axelord?  Named weapons require no kills, really, danger room'd dwarves will frequently name their weapons.  There's no definitive science on the naming scheme, but it seems to be a balance of kills, skill, and time spent holding it.  IE: they might name it if they hold it for a decade, and they may name it after one heavy siege.  HFS/Titans/Megabeasts/etc seem to promote naming faster than other kills, I would suspect it's either based on size of kill or a historical importance behind the kill (like megabeasts).

Oh. Because if kills was the deciding factor, it would have been named a while ago. Now I have to go find that feathered cobra FB so I can get a name. Thanks for the help!

Most of my military dwarves have named their weapons and shields.  Almost all of them are legendary dodgers, armor users, shield users, and fighters and all of them are level 10+ weapon users.  They've had their weapons for probably 8-10 years at this point.  Most of them have 5-7 kills and still have named weapons.

On a side note, I've noticed that dwarves seem to stop being Axe Lords or Hammer Lords or Spear masters if they stop training or stationing and have 'no scheduled duty".  So my danger room trained dwarves no longer get time off.

It's probably worth mentioning that AnimaRytak is the only ecstatic dwarf in the entire fort.
Quick, check him for rum! The bastard's probably spirited some off to his lair office, to act as pleasant refreshment as his evil scheme unfolds!

Perhaps someone could answer this question about Named Weapons :

*Do they get the same bonus as an Artifact Weapon?
*If it's perhaps a single digit bonus (like + 1) does it stack with Masterwork Quality?

Named weapons have no bonus, just flavor.

They will if you clear their uniform, and in fact the weapon will be forbidden upon drop and won't be re-equiped.
