I'd like a suggestion on how to make this work
« on: September 26, 2011, 03:33:35 pm »

So, I have just set up about 10 trillion cage traps outside my fort. This is for the next time I get besieged. When I capture the gobbos, I normally let my guys at them, but I've come up with a better way to solve this. But I don't know how to make it work. I'd like to be able to set goblins up in a pit with crundles 2 z-levels up. i want to immolate the crundles, then kick them down the shaft so there are flaming crundles and goblins running around all over the place. Is there a way to make this work?

I forget if dragonfire pushes stuff, but having a dragon chained to the floor and having a bunch of crundles standing between it and a cliff would be really cool regardless.

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

I've never tried this, but here's what I'm thinking.
z-0 (o is center support wall, + is floor with goblins)
+++++
+++++
++o++
+++++
+++++
z-1 (. is empty space, x is a burning artifact made of something flammable)
. . . . .
. . . . .
. . x . .
. . . . .
. . . . .
z-2 (c is crundle in a cage, + is floor, ". " is animal pit).
+ + + + +
+ c  c  c +
+ c  .  c +
+ c  c  c +
+ + + + +

The way I see it, you could drop the crundles from the cage onto a flaming artifact. I would imagine that they would fall off that pillar due to over-population and falling momentem though, and into your goblin pit.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Can floor grates be linked to a lever? (not at my home computer right now and the wiki doesn't say)

If so, you could make some lignite grates, drop magma on them briefly for ignition, then use them to ignite the goblins before dropping them.

Sidhien: What's your avatar from?

Flaming animals: If you have magma at disposal, you can use it to wash the creatures into the pit.
Side view:
Code: [Select]
Magma here
v
__g
  |   |
  |   |
  _+___
   ^ This is a floor grate
This will push the creatures off the side, and the grate will drain the magma out leaving the creature in the pit.

Neat-o. Time to begin Operation Flaming Greenskin.

Bonus points if you do this, into your dining hall instead.

Flammable artifact grates/hatches will burn forever once lit, and can be opened remotely if you use magma-safe mechanisms.

This looks promising. Imagine the shame when the goblins die after fighting hundreds of burning crundles. You might want to look at this first though...

Burning crundle?  You might want a Doktor to look at that.

Put a small booze stockpile into the room you drop the crundles and gobs into.
Let the "room" be a raised floor with no walls.
Drop a small bit of magma onto the booze and launch the flaming crundles and gobs off of the raised floor into the cavers.

I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.

I saw that thread, but i found it more appropriate to start a new one, since this is a different-ish topic.
