Gmail is trolling me

Well, I'm back again with my email problems..

The problem: When I send an email, my name will be displayed above it. While I do not mind sharing my name with random people from the inter webs, Gmail seems to randomly name me 'Matting' instead of my real name.

This is in the same 'email-chain' and it appears to be completely random. I asked to the people I mail with and they confirmed that I would occasionally be called Matting.

Does anybody know what causes this? My display name is definitively not Matting.

I use Gmail, but I've never had a problem like yours (That I know of, at least).

Maybe Gmail wants you to change your name to Matting?

Mail settings > Accounts and Import > Send Mail As > Edit Info

Problem solved.

I already tried that after searching for a solution with Google.
The name in there is just my own name. Not matting.

I am not qualified to solve any problems more complicated than that. Do they have a tech support email address?

I can't solve the main problem, but I can tell you they sure as hell don't have a tech support email address. Google is notorious for not having the option to contact a real person about anything that might go wrong. If you can't solve things via the FAQ's they provide, it ain't getting solved.

Problem solved:
My iPod changed my name to matting because of autocorrection >.>

Great so now not only is Gmail trolling you, but Apple is doing it as well! Who gave these companies the rights to mess with peoples lives like this!?!
(Thinking about it I realize that the ones who granted them such power was actually us, so it's sort of like we're trolling ourselves.. :o)

Also the :o code followed by a parenthesis looks like a happy troll (big nose and all)
