I just modded in the wood guild cartel representative to trade with my dwarves as the homeland.  My requests for Giant Badgers do not go unheeded.

Why is it that whenever I think about trading with the Elves, the phase 'fire sale' comes to mind?

Probably the same reason 'garbagemen' comes to me.

Cougars aren't that effective except for hunting (which is a death sentence anyway).

Now cave crocs... Better breeders, supplies of food, and the surplus alive ones can be pastured by the hundred in areas of the map. It makes for some seriously easy battles. I actually burnt them all to death because of how boring having 500 cave crocs swarming all over my map had become.

The next year I replaced them with one dragon. The dragon died. Cave crocs rule.

I've got 10 danger room'd soldiers that can already handle most anything.  The cougars are mostly for simplicity and bragging rights.  Ideally, I want the elves to bring me something of the Giant variety...

I had my own Circus Maximus going once, full of hungry lions! It was delightful dropping stripped goblins in there and opening the cages.

Edit: I'm not sure why I posted this.  Perhaps just adding to the 'animals are fun' theme, or the more likely 'I'm bored at work' one.

I've got the room to instal something similar.  Probably go oldschool and have it floodable for even more awesome fights.  And magma floodable, for less fighting but more dwarfy.  It will be enormous, mostly circular, and have spires...  No, spikes!  It will menace with spikes!

And you have to conscript the entire fortress, and station them as the audience!

Actually, the plan was for little 1x1 viewing booths with locking levers on the inside.  No squads needed, and a macro can open and close all the doors at once!

But without a squad, how are you going to make them wear the togas?

I think we've strayed a teeny bit off topic.

Also, I've decided to build this megaproject of the Circus Maximum.  Except dwarves are by nature terrified of "The Circus" so I'll need a new name.  I'm building a mockup in Minecraft now to get a feel for the look before I sacrifice dwarven lives for the cause.  Looking at the scale of the thing as I build it though, I think this will become my fort, instead of just an area nearby the fort.

A new name? Nonsense! You need a name that proves dwarven ingenuity trumps ampersand... well, everything, and Circus Maximus fits the bill brilliantly. It's like it's saying: "Yeah, just like that, only better."
