Ability to Grasp Lost
« on: September 28, 2011, 06:37:13 pm »

This is starting to really annoy me tbh. I don't mind so much that my dwarves lose the ability to grasp (although it does seem to happen an awful lot, I seem to have to replace half a squad after each fight due to them not being able to use weapons anymore) but the fact that they then just run around spamming "cancelled task because too injured" is pretty irritating. Is there any way to stop them spamming these messages ?

Do they lose grasp in both hands? I had a military commander who had completely lost one arm entirely, but he was still my best military unit. Even used a mace and shield in one hand. I assume he just strapped the shield to his forearm and then grabbed a weapon. I haven't had it happen 'alot', but when it does happen it's not usually a big deal untill they lose both arms.

But that's where Legendary Biters come from.

I stick them in a squad without a uniform and set them to train year round.

Thanks that's a good idea I'll try it xd

Sadly the problem would appear to be they've lost ability to grasp in both hands so they just sit on top of food/alcohol barrels spamming that they can't 'pickup equipment'. Oddly they don't seem to have trouble eating or drinking even though they can't seem to get into the bins/barrels.

2
cannon fodder. unarmerd front line man. megabeast food. cheep entertainment. test out FUN traps.

Seems like a pretty weak reward for defending my fortress from goblins :P

If you are feeling silly elfish feelings like sentimentality or guilt you could make them tombs before they go and get themselves hacked to death, so they shall always be remembered as those who became a slight speedbump in the enemies plans.

I don't know about that. Have you ever seen a legendary biter going at a goblin? Nothing is more awesome than watching an armless dwarf bite every single limb off of a goblin before proceeding to decapitate them BY BITING THEIR HEAD OFF!
Extreme dwarfiness in action.

The problem here is that they're trying to pick up supplies. If you set their squad to carry no food or drink (m►u), that should fix it.
