Well, the other thing is that this is only showing supposed brain images of things they're currently actually seeing. I'd be more curious to see if it worked on recalled images. As in, show them clips of apples, then turn the machine on and ask them to close their eyes and think of an apple. And see if the device picks up pictures of an apple, or just blank space. Or even more interestingly, on entirely fabricated images that they haven't seen but are generating.

If my attempts to draw things from memory are any indication, I'd expect that it would be the idea of an apple, with the same basic shape and colour, but different. It may actually be a very blurry apple, as they try to recall specific details and such. It'd be interesting to see what they'd imagine if they were told to think of something they haven't seen in awhile, or that's complex, like a dragon.

Also, this sounds like the most awesome thing since breaking the speed of light.
