Mechanized Party Disperson Device
« on: September 20, 2011, 01:32:31 pm »

If only it was that easy to stop parties...
You know... What if you had a  statue garden with all the statues in alcoves on the edges, and made the main floor out of gold retracting bridges? Retracting bridges that open to a 1 z level drop when an inconvenient party occurs? (You can just un-designate the statue garden, but that isn't as fun...)

Bonus points if you drop them into 3/7 depth water so they learn to swim.

Megadorfpoints for dropping them into the other liquid

Huh. That is a concept. I was wondering if it was possible to sweep the partiers away with water?

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

I used to have a fortress where the main meeting room had a water reservoir over it.  The reservoir had a bridge for its floor, and was set to slowly fill with water, then dump its contents on the meeting room when full.  Enough of the meeting room's floor was made of grates over drains that nobody quite managed to drown.

This setup automatically canceled parties (Urist McLazy cancels party: dangerous terrain), washed the dwarves off, gave them good thoughts from waterfall mist, and taught them to swim all at the same time.  Hell on my FPS when it activated, sadly.

I thought that it would provide results. Interesting...
