Adventure mode Aiming Crash
« on: December 14, 2010, 12:49:21 am »

Hi all, I've looked absolutely everywhere for a solution to my problem and I can't find it ANYWHERE. My game keeps crashing whenever I select a creature to hit  after aiming (A). Says there's a Bus Error.

My error log doesn't seem to show anything of relevance...

I'm at a loss as to what to do, and I suppose I can go without aiming but seriously it gets infuriating. Thanks to anyone who can help me with this..

TBH, I don't have much of a clue here, but it sounds like it's caused by a tileset. Try playing with ascii graphics and see if that fixes it.

Edit for clarification: I say tileset because the filepath references Ironhand. Speaking of which, maybe shortening the filepath would help? Try changing it from "Ironhand Dwarf Fortress 0.31.18" to "IDF 31.18" Also, doomdome's got a good point. Download a new version and do a few aimed attacks; if it works then try adding your raws back and do a few more.

I'm pretty sure that that has nothing to do with it. I vote for redownloading the thing (keep your saves and possibly your raws, though).

Dragging topic back from the dead....
I'm having the same issue, and I also happen to be using ironhand's tileset, dun dun dun. Any ideas what is going on with it? I've done a bit of searching and this is the only other example of the crash I was able to find.

What are your init/d_init settings? Try to set them to the same values as in your working ASCII version.

That's just the name of the folder with dwarf fortress in it. The errors say nothing about tilesets.

Messed around with some of the settings and got it acting right, not sure which one of them was the actual fix. I had forgotten about the d_init file so it was probably one in there.
