I've recently experienced another problem with elven traders. Namely, when offering them some goods and failing to find an agreement after a few offers, they gave me a counter-offer. Issue is that the counter-offer included cave spider silk clothing.

I tried to offer them a few mugs instead of it a few times, but they kept giving the same counter-offer. Eventually they just up and left due to me not accepting that offer. Considering offering them the cave spider silk clothing would result in them getting offended and leaving, I was pretty much at a lose/lose situation. :\

One thing you can do next time is to make it not tradeable.

Are elves really offended by cave spider silk? That doesn't make sense to me. It's an animal product, but it's like cheese and milk; the no animals were injured in the process.

Oh damn. Now that I thought about it, they probably wouldn't have been. :S

I just saw some animal name in front of it and kind of mechanically thought they'd be irked. Nevermind, then.

They did indeed get offended by it in the old version. Maybe Toady changed that; it was a little ridiculous.
