Well, my mayor lover just drowned, but she is still listed at his relationship screen as "Lover". I got a save if needed.

It's because dead units aren't removed or otherwise marked as dead in the relationship screen.

Can they get another lover or marry if the original was dead?

It'd be cool to have it be like it is now except with "(dead)" after the name or relationship for dead dwarves, so you could see who was friends with the dude who was just ripped to pieces by carp.

You can do it if they get lava'd.   They flash red and yellow in the relationship screen.
