Constant Freezings
« on: November 01, 2007, 08:03:00 am »

My last fortress is contant frreezing. The game runs normally, then without warning it freezes and after a few minutes it runs again. I don't have the least clue of what is happening  :(

I know a lot of people are still having lag trouble (this is in the newest one?).  I can't look at all the saves, but if anybody wants to post a paused unmodded save that's doing something consistently lagtacular, I can download it and take a look at it when I get back to work.

Well, I am having a bit of lag, but this is worse. It's a complete stop of the game, that can last some seconds or several minutes. Restarting the game solves the problem for a while.
It is in the newest version. I can send my save if you need to take a look, but you can never know when the freezing will happen. I tried to identify what was causing it and failed.

i had one map that was fairly small but still lagged up to the point of freezing every few seconds,

it had a chasm and in the chasm there were about a dozen ledges with chasm creatures that were basically stuck there, i'm wondering if they were all spamming path finding errors and causing lag.

The freezings got worst and worst to the point that the game would remain freezed and won't come back. I kept the save

I have a save too.  I uploaded it to rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com/files/66958318/region1.zip.html

The hang occurs consistently in a minute or so after starting it up, with no real intervention necessary.  It happened before in the same game, but I avoided it by reloading and trying something different.  It seems to only happen when I'm messing around with machines, but that might be coincidence.  In this case, I was trying to build an underground water-powered millstone.

As a programmer, I can say that this has all the telltale signs of an infinite loop... maybe.

All right, I've downloaded that one.

Thvaz, you have a save that lags now?  I can take a look at it when I get back to work.
toadyone@bay12games.com or somewhere downloadable
region folder in some kind of zip/rar
any new objects that were added to the raw folder

I have the exact same problem.  Just started while I'm busy pumping out an aquifer.  Too may flow calculations perhaps?

Toady, I am sending it to you now, I checked it now and got a freezing in less than 5 minutes.

I started a new world and up until now still didn't get any freezings.

well.. I've got a Colossus "uninvited guest" who has wiped out a fair chunk of the human caravans and some of my animals and people (weaponless wonders, the lot of them)

and it's freezing every so often (cpu usage spikes)... at least 1 noble is killed.. .that's the old expedition leader/mayor (I think) - I've got both that mayor and an elected one... then again i've activated everyone and their dog as military too.. the diplomat (some baron) was trying to conduct a meeting with someonel
