- not on your computer.

This is one thing I don't quite understand. What is so demonic about computer that it corrupts everything it touches.

Playing chess is good. Playing chess on computer is not.
Reading a comic is good. Reading it from computer screen is not.
Drawing/Painting is good. Unless you do it on computer.
ETC...

I theorize it has to do with the fact the computer screens glow, and thus activate the person's shameful (in this case) love of shiny things. Staying with the computer (or TV) has this habit of making everything else seem duller and less worth doing anything with, which can get nasty rather quickly; either from lack of exercise, leaving chores undone, or just never going and doing the things you want to do. This state is lamented upon by many who frequent internet forums.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

In addition to this I believe it promotes distraction. Or at least, available internet does. If I am ever to get any writing done I must shut off the connection and stow my phone out of reach. Otherwise it'll be right back to the shiny 0's and 1's after 5 words.

The thing about computers and the Internet is that, yeah, it offers too much opportunity for distraction. It's very hard, for me at least, to ever focus on just one thing while I'm at my computer, because I'm bound to bounce around between whatever strikes my fancy at any particular second. At any moment, you can talk to someone, or find some weird video, or look up any random thing. Tough to focus. If you can, though, more power to you.

As far as meditation goes, you probably can't go wrong with Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction:

Meditation is definatly great.  And chess, I'm actually joining a chess club this school year, as my mind really needs sharpened as well.  Oh, and taking up a hobby. Pretty much everything that's been said.

In a day which you don't have school/work, get up very early in the morning (like 6 AM) and take a walk in the streets or a forest if there is one at where you live. You won't regret it.
