[df_27_176_38c] Vista keyboard lag
« on: March 03, 2008, 01:00:00 am »

Hi.

I've got lags with keyboard input under vista. Especially when using AutoHotKey. This makes game unplayable for me, 'cause I've got a lot of scripts, which I'm using in my fortress development.

Any suggestions?

I've noticed this a lot with adventurer mode.  The keypress queue doesn't clear itself, and so I have to wait for my adventurer to finish the 15 moves I had pressed before he responds to new key presses.  Rather, he will respond to them at any time - as soon as he finishes with all previous moves queued.

Everything in Vista lags...

It is one of the few cases in history where the older version of something moves faster than the new one.  Speedy-gramps.

well for those who still searching --

1. run dwarf fortress as administrator
2. compile AHK script into exe file
3. run compiled script as administrator

no lags...

That doesn't just happen in Vista.
I've had it happen to me on windows XP. The problem there was that my computer was too slow to handle adventurer mode properly.

But yeah, it's annoying just going southwest all the time, then running into some major group of enemies, pressing northwest to run the other way but having to watch your adventurer complete 20 previous commands, diving brain-first into the enemy wave and getting slaughtered.
