Digging
« on: November 08, 2006, 06:46:00 am »

If you make a lot of rooms in a tileset-style (like a checker) with no opening at all, except a small one down, the dwarves will begin to dig then they will dig "up" then... when they'll be thirsty they won't find the way out !

Simple eh ?

If you're describing a pathfinding AI problem, you're going to need to post an image or something.

Interesting, I kind of think I get what you're saying, and it's interesting if so. Although I agree this needs a screenshot to be more descriptive.

Here it is.

I'm sorry, the pathfinding works, but it doesn't work well : after many many tries they eventually found the exit.

This could be optimized I think.

Sorry I didn't precise : my 3 "locked dwarves" are up in the image (the 3 small red points = 3 lost dwarves)

Sorry for my English it's perfectible.

It looks like you locked them in with a workshop.  Some workshop squares aren't passable (the ones with dark green Xs).

If so, they wouldn't have been out even after 33 tries, would they ?

You are probably right... but I let the game on its own for 4 hours so I don't know how they went out. Anyway I'm finishing some stuff to test the AI of the diggers   :D   :p

Perhaps somebody dug out the designated square below the workshop in that time, but as the picture stands, they are trapped.
