Nobles punishing themselves & export violations in g
« on: November 07, 2006, 09:42:00 am »

When I just finished trading with the humans, but before they left, my tax collector forbade the export of idols. Since I just traded a lot of idols away, all dwarves who carried an idol to the depot got retroactively punished. Among those 15 dwarves is almost my entire nobility, plus the tax collector himself. At least he's not so corrupt he spares himself.

This is all kinda funny, but I wonder how realistic it is to:

1. punish people retroactively (does fit with the nobles general character)
2. punish other nobles, even the highest ranking ones like the baroness
3. making nobles order themselves to be beaten

Yeah I've observed this as well. Generally nobles are the only ones who get punished, because they don't take orders and 'haul to depot' is one of the few tasks they'll do.

They're also big into pulling levers.

Yeah, these are known issues that will be handled somehow...  the noble should at least have enough sense not to pick up the item.

Well in this case from what I understand, the Tax Collector forbade the export of Idols *after* all the idols had been brought to the merchants and traded.

I think that if nobles didn't add any items to their forbidden exports list while trading is possible, it would work a lot better.  To make absolutely sure, they should also wait until the merchants have left the map and all exported items are checked.
