Training the UberGoblin
« on: September 04, 2011, 01:31:07 am »

I just verified that goblins can be trained in danger rooms (using Runesmith proves that they gain skills). Since goblins and forgotten beasts will fight, it is possible to catch a goblin in a cage trap, release him into a danger room with his clothing, weapons, and armor, and train him into a supersoldier. You can then re-cage the goblin, and deploy him as a disposable weapon (i.e. it doesn't matter if he gets a FB syndrome!).

It also might be amusing to trap an entire goblin siege into a danger room (without using cage traps), and then deploy that army against

This differs from merely tossing the goblins to the beasts, in that you want the goblins to win.

EDIT: I terminated my initial experiment with several heavily armored legendary soldiers, just to be safe.

my options are then either killing my goblin prisoners, or killing them after training them to fight.

Leprechauns actually. That "magically delicious taste" prefstring soon lead to their total extinction.
Congratulations, you killed the only things considered dominant and have heralded the end of civilization in your world as you know it.

Certainly makes using them for arena battles more interesting. As for sending them into HFS, seems like a lot of trouble for a rather small benefit.

I support this idea.  The ability to stuff prisoners into cages at will increases the weaponization chances as well!  You can throw goblins by the dozen into a single cage, and release them against, well, anything!

Also, this sounds like an interesting choice for gladiator battles too.  Certainly more interesting than naked fights.

Certainly more interesting than naked fights.

Watching naked small people wrestle olympic-style doesn't really interest you when you can drop them in with armor and weapons?

If you mod the goblins as fake 'tame' will they fight other invaders?

Using Runesmith, then yes.  Adding [PET] then no, only the children of an invader born on the map can be tamed, and acts very strange when tamed and also an invader.

Hmmm... now I'm considering setting up a "Sparticus"-style revolt in my fort.

The goblin gladiator stabs the mayor in the head with his -copper fork-, tearing the muscle, chipping the skull and tearing the brain!

Your settlement has crumbled to its end.
