Equipping a specific crutch
« on: August 31, 2011, 08:45:55 am »

My expedition leader, Cerol Sikeliden was attacked by an alligator, which resulted in a severe leg injury with nerve damage, and loss of ability to stand. So she was given a no-quality wooden crutch to hobble around on.

Then, I got my first artifact: âgothakir "The Competitive Rewards", a brass crutch: ACiotHQ. It is encrusted with shell opal. On the item is an image of the ascension of Fikod Oakenoil to the queenship of the Armor of Constructs in 105.

Our leader was injured, forced to walk with a crutch, which inspired one of our dwarves to create an amazing artifact for her, featuring an image of a great queen.

Now the question is, is there any way to get her to actually use it?

Have you tried forbidding all other crutches before the doctor delivers the crutch?  The doctor is the one who actually assigns the crutch to the patient, so I don't think there's any specific way you can get the dwarf to equip it otherwise.  I don't know if doctors will touch artifact crutches or not.

If the crutch was already assigned then I'd be curious as to what happens if you forbid the crutch they're using.  I'm guessing not much will happen -- crutch usage seems to be pretty continuous.  I haven't had a lot of luck forbidding items that dwarves already own or have equipped.
