Can you bury a specific animal in a tomb?
« on: August 30, 2011, 08:38:43 am »

I've been trying to capture forgotten beasts and other mighty creatures using chained chickens and wooden doors to lure them in, then sealing them in with a bridge. My first success was a humanoid FB made of steam with mandibles. I locked him in, and watch as he was killed by my restrained stray hen. Now my hen has a title, and I want to make her a tomb. Is there a way to designate a tomb for pets / strays?

I didn't personally mod it, but someone who duplicated raws managed to embark as living trees that ate wagon meat.

That led me to the conclusion that duplicating raws is like feeding your computer LSD.

I don't think you can make it happen, but you can maximize the odds that it will happen:

(1) Build your epic tomb.
(1B) Optional-but-dwarfy: Mass-engrave the floor, then build walls on any engraving that isn't a masterwork of the chicken killing the FB.  Place masterwork statues of the chicken killing the FB.  Decorate the coffin with the chicken's owner's favorite materials.
(2) Build lots of coffins for dwarves.  Always have a spare coffin for a dead dorf, and always have pet burial turned off.
(3) Whenever a pet dies, either forbid/burn/magma its corpse or designate a coffin for pet burial.
(4) When your Epic Mega Chicken dies, immediately pause the game.  Go to your stocks screen and forbid all but the coffin you want to use for the hen; forbid every corpse on your stocks menu except the chicken.  Once you're sure you've done it right, enable burial and burial of pets on the constructed coffin.

It's tricky but I think it'll work.

Dreambrother has my original hammer-shaped Great Hall.  Towerweak has taken the idea to the next level.

Butcher the chicken.  Make a masterwork roast from its meat, crafts from the bones, and a totem from the skull.  Dump them all in the tomb and then seal it up.

Alternatively, set that hen up with her own nest box sitting on top of a single tile pillar, surrounded by retracting bridges linked to a lever. Put a pasture over the box and set it to only have the epic bird, and lock the room off. As chicks hatch, pull the lever to drop the chicks 1z down and away from the epic hen, raise them to replace all other animals in your fortress.

Also, mod the raws for the save so you can train chickens. Within a couple years you'll have a sizable force of battlechickens all decended from Capt Clucky O'Hare.
