Modding in smurfs?
« on: August 26, 2011, 04:35:41 pm »

General idea:

- Add in a new civilization/creature type
- Smurfs
- tiny, tiny blue humanoids that wear silk caps and silk pants.
- Smurfs should be able to be carried in the hands of a dwarf
- Smurfs should attempt to steal dwarven goods of small size
- Smurfs would steal food
- Smurfs should build small 1x1 tile "settlements" or shops in relation to each other.
- Over time, smurf settlements/huts/shops form "villages".
- Smurfs should be eatable as a single item
- Smurfs will send a diplomat randomly and accuse the dwarves of some arbitary crime.
- If no smurfs have been killed, the smurfs send a trade caravan mostly bringing useless stuff to trade like earrings, thus motivating the player to destroy them.
- Once your fort hits a population of 50, The Gargamel wizard arrives as a diplomat and gives you the mission to kill the smurfs. Upon completion of this heroic task, dwarves receive something in return.
- Vermin-killers like cats and dogs should attack and eat smurfs like they were "vermin".

- Upon a state of mutual aggression, smurfs will pointlessily attack dwarves who will kill, eat them or both.
- The murder/eating of smurfs gives a happy thought:
"Urist McDrunk enjoyed stomping a smurf to death lately"
"Urst McDrunk had a great smurf snack recently."

Whaddaya say? Is it doable?

General idea:

- Add in a new civilization/creature type
- Smurfs
- tiny, tiny blue humanoids that wear silk caps and silk pants. Sure. Just make the only allowed armor/clothing silk caps and pants. Size is set by the creature, as are other physical characteristics like skin color
- Smurfs should be able to be carried in the hands of a dwarf Do you mean size-wise? Yes. Do you mean as a new action? No.
- Smurfs should attempt to steal dwarven goods of small size You can make them act like kobolds who steal things but you can't specify size of objects taken
- Smurfs would steal food See above
- Smurfs should build small 1x1 tile "settlements" or shops in relation to each other. - Not possible assuming you want the AI to do this.
- Over time, smurf settlements/huts/shops form "villages". - Not possible assuming you want the AI to do this
- Smurfs should be eatable as a single item You can make a corpse item that's edible but you have to kill them first.
- Smurfs will send a diplomat randomly and accuse the dwarves of some arbitary crime. - Adding new diplomat behavior not possible.
- If no smurfs have been killed, the smurfs send a trade caravan mostly bringing useless stuff to trade like earrings, thus motivating the player to destroy them. Isn't this pretty much default behavior anyway?
- Once your fort hits a population of 50, The Gargamel wizard arrives as a diplomat and gives you the mission to kill the smurfs. Upon completion of this heroic task, dwarves receive something in return. - Adding "tasks" like this is not possible.
- Vermin-killers like cats and dogs should attack and eat smurfs like they were "vermin". - Classifying as vermin likely excludes most other behaviors that you'd want.

- Upon a state of mutual aggression, smurfs will pointlessily attack dwarves who will kill, eat them or both. Also standard behavior, isn't it?
- The murder/eating of smurfs gives a happy thought:
"Urist McDrunk enjoyed stomping a smurf to death lately" - Can't get this specific/add new thoughts, but your dwarf should get a happy though about enjoying slaughter...
"Urst McDrunk had a great smurf snack recently." - As above, can't add new thoughts, but dwarf would get a happy thought if the meal was a good one.

Whaddaya say? Is it doable? - Some of it is. Some of it isn't. I'd recommend glancing through the wiki pages on tokens just to get a rough idea of what -is- possible through modding.
Bolded what I feel is possible.

Perhaps picking them up could come later (later meaning "after now", of course) with interactions?

Well, if you made them [VERMIN_GROUNDER] or whatever, you could pick them up, but apparently vermin civs don't work.
