Cannibalistic night creatures?

Yes, I know they always eat sapient creatures (it's kind of their thing), but I've never seen one eat ANOTHER NIGHT CREATURE before:

In another oddity, I've been to at least two different night creature lairs in this world where there were at least 3 night creatures. The one that I just cleared out had 8!

ALSO, I abandoned my mod fort (mod in sig :P), and found it still occupied when I got there. I've also found a lot of merchants, including elf merchants, and their pack animals in the surrounding area. Odd!
