Despite having partnered with Japa and Jonask to make a graphical visualizer for the game, I really haven't played DF in close to a year now. I always got more out of Adventure Mode than Fortress Mode anyway, since I lacked the long-term vision to see even a really fantastic and interesting game-world through to its end. To be fair, I abandoned my last big Fortress due to newer version incompatability... but I've never been able to recreate that tale of mostly extinct Dwarves carving histories of their royal betrayals and exile, as they battled against a nation of Demon-worshiping Goblin-Elves.

I do wonder how many are in the same boat in the lower forums. I do miss the game, and once the new Arc comes out, I think I'll give it another shot. Still have to make that Kobold Village I've been hoping to for a while.

I'd also like to know: why the interest in how many women play? Why not ask about other demographics: race and ethnicity, income, etc? What is it about gender that makes this question significant? I don't see this question asked of men in female-dominated online circles.

Eh, I actually do see that asked with some regularity in other communities.

...though it's usually by guys, along the lines of "am I the only guy here".

Well I'm left out, both on preference, and how I want to be tooled, but then I do prefer when people don't change their worldveiw because of me, I'd rather have someone else be the worlds first bisexual post op eunuch... lets leave it at that.
