Dropped Items
« on: August 14, 2011, 11:23:53 pm »

Okay, I was wondering about dropped items in DF adventure mode in relation to fortress mode.

If I were to drop an item in the wilderness will I be able to:

A: (memorizing the location) come back and find it in the same place?

B: (still memorizing the location) create a fortress on that location and find the item lying on the ground?

They seem easy to find out, but i would expect so, as everything else seems to stay somewhat the same place.

Not in the current version. As far as I can tell, outside of lairs and camps everything resets.

You need to find a lair to drop it in.

Random spots in the wilderness? Disappears.
Caves/forts/maybe worldgen sites? Scattered.
Shops? Maybe added to inventory, IDK.
Lairs? No scattering.

Thanks guys! I've been out of town for a while and I've been brainstorming ideas for my next great adventure.

Go find a lair and use that as a stash place. Think NetHack style stashes. Buy a few chests and barrels of booze, and some extra water-skins. Go fill the skins and put them in a chest. Butcher your kills, and haul it back to what is now your lair. Dump the meat in some empty barrels, and drop the fat in your cauldron, if you have one. Put all your wealth into a bag. Put the bags of gold and silver into the chests.

Prior to this, add custom reactions that will let you cook with the cauldron. Or, download the Wanderer's Friend mod, this will let you do a lot of extra crafting (carving bone crafts, making your own barrels, tanning animal hides, etc.). Make a stone axe to gather wood, and use other stones to make your own spears and arrows.

I have the mod. I've already gathered my enemies' weapons and armor and melted it all down to metal bars. AS A FRIGGIN ELF. I burned trees for coke. I BROKE MY LAWS. But it's totally worth it. I can make a metal spear and metal ammunition from my gathering.
