Yeah i know i am doing the shit stunt of announcing a game before i even got something to show, but i am pretty much making this because i know i will get something out of it.
Basically it is Astroids, you are a little triangly ship affected by inertia, instantly destroyed by rocks(might change this to something else just as !!FUN!!), shooting roids down, they make debris wich can be shot again to make new debris, and will disappear into dust at last, instead of making cosmic space poo vapor like another greifing assistant with a space cleaner full of poo and clown blood, you can engage tractor beam and carefully, if not cowardly, tow the astroid into a rock cruncher and gain money/resources to build a space station! This station would house crew/tourists and various faccilities such as nuclear reactors and bread toasting faccilities, lasers etc. The game would have three stages, surface, wich is moonlander-ish, orbit wich is astroids, outer space wich is more like a main menu than anything else(shoot special rocks to start anew, load, exit, etc or something.)

Now im gonna go make a few graphics, then see if i can glue together some orbital glued together piece of code.

Gaah, got a few graphics, but there is somethign wron with movement, i am making this in Construct 1:

this is the event scheme:

Always: Rotate Ship towards postion MouseX MouseY

Key W is down: Add force towards postion MouseX MouseY

The problem is that when i press the key it dosent move, then suddenly shocks towards my mouse cursor, and its completely unresponsive :P Heeeeelp!

Edit: Fixed the funny movement, however now controlls are WSAD, AD for Rot and WS for Pro and Retro.
Also made it so Shift kills any kind of movement, gonna take alot of fuel in future releases, and i might make a more smoother version in the future, however now its just a mockup.
Onwards to basic ship stuff, anyone got a cool vector rock sprite?

I need some advice, what would be best? Going straight for the full idea or just trying to make an astroids clone with what i got now?

It sounds like the core gameplay is an Asteroids clone, so I would start by building that and then add on the other stuff.

This sounds neat- I love Asteroids, but without any kind of goal or escalation it gets pretty boring.

Hmmm, I messed around with Construct a bit lately, but nothing with rotational movement or mouse positions, so I can't be much help. Did you try the Scirra forums? I think they have a pretty good community.

Good luck, though, hope you see this to completion.

My best advice would be to NOT advertise your game as swimming around in space surrounded by poo vapour.

This. DrPoo, if you were a troll you would be an amazing troll, but you're not, so you achieve something entirely different with all your cheesy feces jokes but I am not sure what! Anyway, I like what you've got so far. Asteroids is always fun.

My post was supposed to be a joke, I apologize if it was misinterpreted. Your game idea lacks some definition but sounds promising. The idea of cleaning up space junk is interesting, but I'm not sure how long the Asteroid shooting mechanic could keep people's attention these days. A fun physics-based asteroid shooter would be interesting, but the 2nd part you mention is more appealing to me. Mining the asteroids and building up something out there, for space tourism or renting out lab space or whatever, sounds much more appealing.

I will say an asteroids control scheme is probably the biggest hindrance to modern asteroid-style games. That might be why a lot of top-down space shooters - even the ones that opt to use physics - tend to use a WASD to move, mouse to aim control scheme.

And that is why i made the shift key stop all movement, later its just gonna decrease it, wasting lots of fuel in the process, and far out, it might even have animated thrusters.
