Old School Carp and Such
« on: August 12, 2011, 08:41:39 am »

I personally liked the insanity of things like carp and elephants before they were nerfed. It added a boatmurdered style OMG THE ELEPHANTS ARE ATTACKING THERES LIKE 20 OF THEM AND HALF MY POPULATION IS BEING MASSACRED BY CARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! does anyone know how to "unfix" this stuff?

The old problem with carp, as far as I remember, was that they were constantly swimming, and thus constantly levelling up their swimming skill and getting all the stat upgrades you'd expect from that. So maybe give them [CAN_LEARN]? And yeah, some sort of prone to rage tag would help.

IIRC the problem was more combat related, everything acted like an RPG where a sword would do 8-10 damage. Bites did 1-6 damage, the problem was that it wasn't based off of size like it is now so a dwarf had the same bite as a carp. Back then hammers could flip creatures 50+ tiles, so biting could sever limbs.

Which reminds me, crank up their size so they're twice the size of a dwarf.

I once made magma carp with the intent of making them old school, while breathing magma. They ended up coming on land, and ate everything. EVERYTHING.

Just tripled carp size. Also changed description to "A bloodthirsty demon in fish form. Rips dwarves limb from limb with ease. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!"

Add [LARGE_PREDATOR] to elephants?

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

EDIT - That was VERY CLOSE to getting sigged.
