One one hand it's an artifact, and on the other it's made from bones.
I'm not thinking it'll be good against armour, but against trogs and such it should be fine.

I would just put it in a weapon trap, preferably with a masterwork mechanism, in an area my dwarves frequent, such as the baths, zoo, or dining hall

Against leather, wood, or bone armor, it should work adequately (but worthless vs metal). If it's used on something huge (like an ogre) with even pig tail fiber clothing, it is effectively useless, as that will deflect even candy weapons frequently.

In short, decorative trap fodder.

At least it would be found offensive by those nature loving elves and the occasional human.

The interesting thing about dwarves is that they don't have an immune system, but rather the ability to maintain an extremely high blood alcohol content for extended periods of time.

Elves have problems with bones? I'm pretty sure I've sold them totems often enough.

My Mechanic just created a mechanism made from Lignite. I'm going to put the two together in the middle of my meeting room.

They do eat other elves if they somehow fight each others. The story of Cacame is the proof of it.

not really. elves are CANNIBLE and humans don't give a crap.
elves have
[ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_ANIMAL:UNTHINKABLE]
bonecrafting it's just as unthinkable for them as treechopping.
[ETHIC:KILL_PLANT:UNTHINKABLE]
It's some other tag that makes them refuse wood items in trade, i don't know for sure which one it is. Maybe [TREE_CAP_DIPLOMACY]?

EDIT: wrong quote

Interesting, for some odd reason they do accept bones, I just traded them some totems. And here's the wiki to back me up.

Elves will generally accept items made of green glass, stone, metal, bone and other refuse, silk, leather, plant fiber cloth, meat and fish, totems, and even plants. They will accept animals in trade, as long as their cages are not wooden.
