That would finally give use to those barrels of blood the traders keep bringing.

Quite an obvious change.

Who would like to fire cats at the enemy, save+exit, mod cats, watch a nuclear explosion...
Also, firing that caged dragon, which then starts flying and spewing flames over the goblins sounds deadly.

"Sir, the elven traders are here!"
"DARNIT! LOAD THE CATAPULTS!"
"Sir, you just ordered all the spare stone to be dumped."
"I didn't tell you to use stones you hippy! Wooden catapults should fire wood and flowers... and launch the animals as well."
"Yessir!"

Elf Bowman detaches his head to let the lizard pass safely.
Elf Bowman has died.
Lizard hits tree and explodes in gore!
Elf Swordsman is stricken by melancholy!
Elf Swordsman kills Elf Bowman!
Elf Swordsman has drowned.
-The dwarves then die from the contaminated water.

Endless possibilities here, especially with breaking barrels.

Cannot approve more. This is one of the best ideas I've heard recently. Seriously, catapults should be able to fire anything, though heavier things should have shorter range.

Actually, given the upcoming syndromes and interactions this would be brilliant. Infect some prisoners/kittens with a zombie virus, then launch them at the elves. Suddenly the elves are showered with zombie-bits and start turning on each other in a flesh-eating rabble. Then just wait for them to... actually I didn't think this far ahead. Showering elves with zombie chunks just seemed a good idea.

EDIT: Even better idea if you could have a dwarven necromancer in your fort.
Get necromancer to resurrect some severed limbs
Load severed limbs into catapults
Fire at enemy

The spinning Urist McArmless's right arm hits the goblin swordsman in the head, fracturing the skull
Urist McArmless's right arm grabs the goblin swordsman's head
Urist McArmless's right arm gouges the goblin swordsman's left eye
Urist McArmless's right arm gouges the goblin swordsman's right eye
Urist McArmless's right arm grabs the goblin swordsman's throat
Urist McArmless's right arm strangles the goblin swordsman x20
The goblin swordsman has suffocated
