Outsiders and Language Files
« on: July 30, 2011, 07:23:57 pm »

Do the outsiders of a specific race (Outside human) always get randomly generated languages  for their names in Adventure mode,  I added a Language for a modded race called Mardven (that's the language)  but when I do an outsider of  that race, the language seems to be randomly picked.

It is always chosen at random, and it chooses a new language every time you 'r'andomize your adventurer's name.

The language is always the one used by your civ if you play as a civ member, however.

Note that these languages are not themselves created at random, its just choosing one of the languages described in the raws (human, dwarf, goblin, elf, Mardven, carp-man etc...)

Ah okay, thank you... I can remove the Marsh Dwarf from the indiv control list finally just caved and made them civ controllable so I could see if Mardven took and how it handle words with  -  in it...

Mardven is Egyptian and Dwarven derived using  DFlang

Would that be Coptic or some older Egyptian?

I got it off a site I can't actually tell if it's Coptic,  modern Egyptian (A form of Arabic) or based off Ancient Egyptian

Here's a sample from language word list/file

(bast basutent setut tut sem naiph)

think it might be Ancient Egyptian, I know Bast was the name of an Egyptian Goddess

That seems very interesting. Could you share the whole word list? I've been on the lookout for cool languages to base my recently made modcraft cultures' languages on.

I grabbed it from this site, which is also mentioned (but a tad buried) in the DF Lang Topic
