Dwarves Not Taking Things out of Workshops?
« on: July 31, 2011, 11:19:02 pm »

I have started to notice that almost all my workshops are labeled with CLT. So, I tried to make some other things, and saw that no one took it to a stockpile. Any reason why this would be happening? I uploaded the save to megaupload, so if you want, you can download it to have a better look.

Also, any suggestions to make a better fort would be welcome.

I didn't look at the save, but I'll bet its one of three things:

One: No stockpile for intended item.
Two: No space in said stockpile

Or three (The most likely): Everyone's too busy hauling other stuff to haul those.

The first two are an easy fix, the third one would require you to change a few dwarf's hauling profiles to haul only the objects you want hauled - i.e., whatevers cluttering yer workshops.

All the dwarves that have no job are at the great hall. I even deconstructed my mechanic's workshop to see it they would pick those up, but no. There's plenty of space in the general stockpile from what I can tell.

define general stockpile?

Mechanics crap goes into a furniture stockpile. Your dwarves need hauling labours enabled as well.

I just checked Dwarf Therapist, and it says that the the furniture labor is active for all the dwarves.
The general stockpile is as follows:
Animals
Furniture/Siege Ammo
Ammo
Coins
Finished goods
Leather
Cloth
Weapons/Trap comps
Armor

You haven't forbidden the items in question have you?

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

No, none of them have been forbidden.

Are the haulers restricted to burrows?  Are there military alerts active?

If the answer to those is no, or checking doesn't help, then try making a new furniture-specific stockpile with no alterations.  It could be that your general stockpile has a material that's not allowed, or something else odd like that.

A squad is currently on active/training. It is set up as seen here: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Military_quickstart
The only thing I changed is that I have eight members in my squad instead of five.
