crashing during map generation

Since I installed the new version, the game crashed 2 out of 3 times when I was generating a new world.

the most recent happened before it asks if you want to take a shot of the entire world. I forget about the other

after that made ~4 more with no problems. but that is no help.

i had this problem on one out of four new maps i made.

it seemed to happen towards the end.  if i had to guess, i'd say it was when it was "finalizing historical figures" but it might have been before.  It was definitly AFTER terrain generation and at least after it had begun the Age of Myth.

edit:  it should also be noted that i was multitasking other applications at the time.  world generation seems to be generally upset when it doesnt have context.

I'd bet hands down it's the multi-tasking. I've personally always noticed the world generator to be "VERY" picky about having top priority. Me bringing up another application, for instance, causes that neat region I was watching it initialize, be discarded 9 times out of 10, or so it seems.

The only problems I've had multi-tasking are that it doesn't refresh the screen until it next thinks to do it.

Then again, it's quite possible that that's some silly superstition of mine. I can't tell for certain, so I'm willing to dismiss it. Since Toady likely knows exactly what he's talking about.

I've been multi-tasking pretty heavily for the past two days as I gen worlds on my secondary machine at work, while I work.

40-ish worlds have been generated with the lastest build, without any crashes (so far).

(and I still haven't found a sinister area in a warm/hot/scorching region that has no trees)
