Storing seeds in barrels

On the DF wiki farming page it suggests a small stockpile exclusive to seeds next to your farm plots. I'm planning on trying this out but currently I have a bunch of empty barrels in a stockpile sat next to a bunch of seeds that are just lying around on the floor. How do I get my Dwarfs to store them in the barrels?

Seeds are not stored in barrels - seeds are stored in bags, and those bags are what get stored in barrels.
