Perma-Siege due to caged goblins.
« on: June 16, 2007, 11:35:00 pm »

Has anyone seen this before? I had a siege back about three years ago and a couple (two) godlins got trapped in cages, and later killed by my military, but now, I have been in "Siege Mode" since the siege happened originaly, and I find it to be very game-breaking to never get an immigration, siege, or merchant passing-by.

So year, mark it down and the like, and help me to find a possible solution.

I've never had that problem and I cage quite a few goblins.  I think sieging is only supposed to continue if there are viable combatants - being caged or running away do not count.

Check to make sure there are not any goblins or trolls or anything hanging around somewhere outside.

Trust me, there's NOTHING outside. A magma flood made sure of that

I've a similar problem with the goblin siege regularly arriving in early summer and the humans have since stopped since their arrival time would be mid-siege. 2 years of no humans now and I've stopped my mug industry cause I'm stone-craft flooding my fortress.

Do you still get elves or dwarves?

Yes, but I'm not permanently stuck in siege mode like you are. I just have goblins that have for the past 2 years arrived in large hordes about 3, 4 days before humans usually would. Humans don't arrive because I'm then under siege.

This may change, my first siege arrived in winter. Since then they've arrived early summer though.

I also had something like this happen in a fort once. Didn't involve caged goblins, but the "SIEGE" tags in the corners of the screen never disappeared.

Can't remember what caused it, exactly, but I think it involved a pathing error with the goblins trying to retreat off-screen or something.

I'm pretty sure it's not related to cageing the goblins. I have had 5-6 goblin sieges and have caged all the goblins that tried to enter so I have 80 or so goblins in cages and I have had no problem like you describe.

*leveling up my necromancy*

[38c]
In my recent fortress, when i've cosen to abandon it, 3 caged goblins killed 61 dwarves(20 of them military and guards) with some message about conquering me.
Later(in Adv. mode) i found all the corpses of my dwarves and 3 empty goblin cages in my barracks(metal btw.). All animal cages contain corpses.

I have lots of goblins caged in my zoo, even the last surviving local leader of goblinkind, but I never had a problem with never ending sieges.
Of curse I would often get sieges at bad times (i.e. at the time when human or dwarven trade caravans would arrive) but hey, thatīs the intention of a siege, i.e. to prevent the supply from getting to you  :D

Xombie, you should not necro old bug threads unless the exact same bug still exists.  It wastes ToadyOne's time.

Well. Since i play recent version I think bug is still here. Or at least part of it.

@Proteus.
1)When you abandon your fortress during siege - all your dwarves gets killed.
2)When you abandon your fortress, while having caged goblin - all your dwarves gets killed.
Try yourself.
I think it's some kind of siege. Maybe not. Only Toady knows.

But is the "siege" notification still up?  If not, then you've got a different bug.
