Just looked this up.  Indeed horrifying.  I have to admit, that was some adorable voice acting, and very talented for a 10 year old.

That makes me cringe whenever my daughter watches that movie, which is about once a week.

I saw he-man and she-ra on tv when I was a kid as if those were just about selling toys. It was about the great story. And Evil Skellingtons.

Yeah for the most part from what I understand is that 80s TV shows weren't exactly as toy based as people think.

Don't get me wrong they were made to sell toys, it is just that their model was to actually put their products in the hands of writers (often good writers). It wasn't put into the hands of someone who said "Now how do we make toys sell with this show?" like some shows are today (though in The Batman's case... it got better).
-Mind you it is only because they started to make people who specialise in making shows that sell products today. While back then they could only do it by making the best shows they can with the characters they had.

Thus a lot of marketing ploys actually had good stories and sometimes, because it is for toys, great characters. (along with total and uttar junk... but hey, what era didn't have junk?)

Jem for example was much more popular then their toys, In fact the reason the series was cancelled wasn't because their show lost interest but because their toys stopped selling.

Crappy shows don't sell many toys (might even be detrimental to the product line's coolness). I use to quite enjoy the smurfs cartoon (at least when I was little kid). The scripts and voice-acting are quite well-done, and definitely add personality to the toy range. Later, they morphed the series into some sort of medieval D&D type world with human allies/kingdoms (well they already had an evil wizard), but I  wasn't really watching the series by them.

The Pac-Man cartoon sucked ass though.

And not true, either, for non-USians. For instance, the Once Upon a Time... series (or Il était une fois…) was very fun.
